Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Queen Anne escritoire is an early 18th-century fall-front writing cabinet characterised by the use of figure-matched walnut veneers, waist mouldings, and a tall chest-on-chest silhouette. The upper section features a drop-down flap that creates a writing desk and reveals a fitted interior of small drawers and central cupboards.

These cabinets were predominantly constructed using walnut and burr walnut veneers laid over oak or pine carcasses. The interior writing surface often incorporated a leather insert, while keyplates and drop handles were crafted from cast brass.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, and hand-planed back panels. Look for subtle variations in veneer wear, authentic iron lock mechanisms, and period-correct brass drop handles mounted with split pins or threaded posts.

Position the cabinet as a focal point against a neutral or deep dark wall in a study, living area, or wide hallway. Contrast the warm wood tones with contemporary minimal task lighting or modern artwork placed nearby.

Maintain a stable indoor climate away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer lifting. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually along the wood grain to protect the finish.
