Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 17th and early 18th centuries during the Queen Anne and early Georgian periods, a walnut bureau is a slant-front writing desk positioned over a chest of drawers. It features a hinged sloping fall that opens to reveal an interior fitted with small drawers, pigeonholes, and document compartments.

These pieces were typically constructed with a solid oak or pine carcass veneered in figured walnut or burr walnut. Construction techniques feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak drawer linings, brass batwing drop handles, brass keyhole escutcheon plates, and carved bracket feet.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-planed timber, hand-cut dovetails, original pine or oak drawer bottoms with natural shrinkage gaps, and genuine wear on internal support lopers. Look for historical brass fittings, natural patination, and original key locks.

A walnut bureau serves as a compact workspace in a home office, hallway, or living room alcove. Contemporary styling involves pairing it with a simple desk chair, a modern table lamp, or minimalist artwork to contrast the detailed timber grain.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber patination. Keep the item away from direct heat sources, radiators, and bright sunlight to prevent the veneer from drying or cracking.
