Holmes Antiques has dated these Olive Oyster Chest Drawers to the 17th Century.
The piece remains in very good original condition retaining all original veneers and cross grain mouldings. The all original locks are quite extraordinary being extremely long and made in the continental manner, the key works all five. We know that these pieces are said to have been made by highly skilled immigrant craftsmen from the continent and this extends to the construction of the drawers which differ from the standard English examples with the bottoms dropped into a rebate on all sides including the back. The handles and bun feet are replaced.
