Beautiful 17th Century Olive Oyster Chest of Drawers

Description

A fine quality William & Mary Chest Of Drawers, made using striking Olive Wood Oyster veneers and having a particularly good top. The colour has developed into lovely mellow shade over the years. Fitted with Olive cross banding throughout and very fine boxwood geometric patterns to the top with bold Boxwood lozenge to the ends. The piece remains in very good original condition retaining all original veneers and cross grain mouldings. The all original locks are quite extraordinary being extremely long and made in the continental manner, the key works all five. We know that these pieces are said to have been made by highly skilled immigrant craftsmen from the continent and this extends to the construction of the drawers which differ from the standard English examples with the bottoms dropped into a rebate on all sides including the back. The handles and bun feet are replaced.
