Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Novelty silver inkwells became prominent during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, continuing into the reign of George V. Silversmiths crafted functional desk items into whimsical shapes, such as bells, animals, or helmets, combining practical utility with decorative art.

These inkwells were typically constructed from sterling silver or high-grade silver plate. They often contained a removable glass liner inside the metal body to protect the silver from the corrosive properties of iron gall ink.

Authentic British silver pieces feature standard hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling silver, an assay office mark, a date letter corresponding to the George V period (19101936), and a makers mark.

A silver novelty inkwell functions well as a decorative object on a executive desk, bookshelf, or sideboard. Its metallic reflective finish contrasts against dark wood surfaces or minimalist stone countertops.

Silver surfaces should be cleaned periodically using a specialised silver polishing cloth or a non-abrasive cream to remove oxidisation. Avoid immersing internal weighted elements or mechanism hinges directly in water.
