Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late Victorian library bookcases from the 1890s typically feature robust oak construction, proportioned upper glazed cabinets with adjustable shelving, and substantial lower storage sections comprising drawers or cupboards. Design elements often reflect Aesthetic Movement influences, including incised carving and geometric inlays.

Victorian cabinetmakers predominantly used native and imported hardwoods such as solid oak, mahogany, and walnut. Assemblies featured float glass panels, solid drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and cast brass bail handles or escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished joinery, age-related oxidation on oak surfaces, original crown or float glass with minor imperfections, saw-tooth or metal peg shelf support systems, and Period-correct brass hardware with natural tarnish.

A Victorian oak bookcase serves as a focal piece in a modern study, hallway, or dining room. Contrast its dark timber tones by displaying modern ceramics, art books, and curated glassware alongside contemporary lighting.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually along the wood grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and atmospheric bleaching.
