Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The bureau plat gained prominence in 18th-century France as a flat writing desk designed to be placed in the centre of a room, evolving from heavier Baroque forms into the Neoclassical proportions characteristic of the Louis XVI period.

Artisans constructed these tables using solid oak secondary timbers overlaid with exotic wood veneers such as kingwood, tulipwood, or rosewood, secured with hand-cut dovetail joints and embellished with cast gilt bronze mounts.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn wood construction on drawer interiors, hand-chased gilding on ormolu mounts with signs of natural oxidisation, and irregular hand-cut joints rather than modern uniform machine cuts.

A writing table of this era functions as a freestanding centrepiece in a study or living area, paired with modern minimalist seating or abstract artwork to highlight the contrasting timber patterns and brass detailing.

Dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth protects the surface, while maintaining stable indoor humidity levels prevents wood veneer from lifting or cracking over time.
