Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table with one or more drawers, introduced during the 18th century in Britain and North America. Designed primarily as a dressing table or side table, it features a lower height than a tallboy or chest on chest.

Georgian lowboys were constructed using solid hardwoods such as English oak, walnut, and mahogany. Secondary timbers like pine or oak were used for internal drawer linings, and hardware consisted of cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic 18th century lowboys exhibit hand-sawn drawer joinery, wooden peg construction along table joints, and irregular hand-planed surfaces on the underside or back. Original brass plates often show oxidation and hand-filed imperfections.

An antique lowboy functions effectively as an entryway console, bedside table, or hallway focus piece. Pairing the timber against neutral walls creates a balanced contrast between historical craft and contemporary decor.

Keep oak furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage or splitting. Apply high-quality beeswax twice a year with a soft cloth to protect the finish, and avoid synthetic chemical polishes.
