Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth century, desktop magnifiers became standard fixtures in offices and private libraries. They were produced to aid in reading fine print, examining maps, and inspecting documents without requiring the user to hand-hold a traditional framed lens.

These instruments were typically constructed using thick convex optical glass lenses fitted into weighted metal housings, often made from brass, bronze, or nickel-plated alloys to ensure stability on flat surfaces.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-ground optical glass with minor imperfections, hand-machined metal threads or joins, natural oxidisation on the metal surface, and noticeable weight relative to modern plastic alternatives.

An antique magnifier functions well placed atop a stack of vintage books on an office desk, styled on a console table, or positioned inside a display cabinet alongside scientific curiosities.

Dust the optical lens with a soft microfibre cloth and clean using a dilute glass cleaner applied directly to the cloth rather than the object. Maintain the metal casing with dry dusting to preserve the existing aged patina.
