A good antique Borchalu Kazak rug with great natural dyes and good wool.

The design is both unusual and attractive, the inclusion of two large human figures are a whimsical touch and add to the charisma of this wonderful piece.

Offered in super clean condition, it has thick pile in the borders, pile slightly lower in the field, original ends and sides with only minor, top flight restoration locally.

Borchalu Kazak rugs originate from the Borchalu region in the southern Caucasus, an area historically inhabited by nomadic and semi-nomadic weavers. These rugs are celebrated for their bold geometric compositions, large latch-hook motifs, and vibrant, contrasting colour palettes.

Authentic Kazak rugs are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable wool warp and weft foundation. The rich tones are derived from natural vegetable dyes, including madder root for reds and indigo for blues.
