LVS Decorative Arts has dated these French Empire Mahogany Armchairs to the 1920s.
This pair of armchairs each consists of a high back, the top rail with applied Classical ormolu mount to the centre with anthemion mounts to either side and below with upholstered back rest, seat and cushion.

The armchairs are supported on tapered legs to the front terminating with ormolu paw feet, with outswept legs to the back.
This pair of armchairs are of ‘Empire’ style, the French Empire period was between 1800 - 1815, the furniture tending to be of larger proportions and with many decorative embellishments. The influences at this time particularly taken from ancient Rome and the Neoclassical styles.

The swan, a symbol of love and fidelity, was adopted as a symbol by Napoleon’s wife Josephine, and was used in many pieces of furniture of this period.
This pair of armchairs are in very good condition for age, upholstered in a neutral linen fabric in very good condition, they are of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
