A fantastic Up-cycled machine base console table.
A true study in functional engineering, the base was originally designed for use with overhead line-shaft power , likely driven by a stationary traction or steam engine. It features a unique asymmetrical profile where one side flares elegantly outward to counter the lateral tension of overhead drive belts, while the opposite side retains its heavy-duty mounting portals for the original mechanical countershafts. The legs are securely integrated by an original cast-iron under-plate, creating a singular, rigid unit that provides unparalleled structural integrity and a massive, grounded presence.
The ironwork is defined by an incredible "factory-floor" patina, showcasing a multi-layered, chippy blue and green finish that has been carefully stabilised to highlight the raw, dark cast iron surfacing in high-wear areas. To transform this industrial relic into a functional work of art, it has been hand-fitted with a top crafted from two vintage reclaimed pine planks that likely share the same era as the base. The timber has been meticulously cleaned to preserve its century of historic saw marks, knots, and character before being finished with a deep, hand-applied wax. This substantial top is securely anchored to the cast-iron under-base using large coach screws , ensuring the piece is as structurally "bombproof" as the day it was first forged. It is a remarkable piece of mechanical heritage, offering a level of authentic grit that modern furniture simply cannot match.
Please note; This table is Very heavy weighs 75kg and is a 2 person lift. Also note, it is made from vintage materials so there are obviously many marks, scratches and dents which we feel adds charm and character to the piece.
This table would look fabulous in a pub/restaurant, loft style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests.
