Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An early 19th-century oak dresser base is a long, low piece of British country furniture typically featuring multiple drawers and an open lower potboard shelf. Produced during the late Georgian and Regency eras, these items functioned primarily as practical storage and food preparation surfaces in domestic kitchens and dining spaces.

Georgian oak dressers were crafted from solid regional oak, utilizing traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-cut dovetails on drawer construction, and wooden pegging. Handles were commonly cast from brass, featuring oval backplates or swan-neck bail pulls.

Authentic pieces display signs of hand-tooling, including hand-planed backboards, irregular drawer dovetails, and genuine surface wear around handles and feet. The timber will show natural shrinkage across the grain and a deep patina built up over decades of wax polishing.

An oak dresser base works well as a hallway console, dining room sideboard, or behind a free-standing sofa. Modern styling often pairs the warm timber with contemporary wall art, modern ceramic vessels, or minimalist table lamps to create visual contrast.

Regular maintenance involves dusting with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish along the wood grain once or twice a year. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
