Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A late 17th-century oak serving dresser is a long table with storage drawers, used originally in dining areas for serving meals. It typically features joined solid oak construction, geometric geometric-moulded drawer fronts, and turned front legs resting on block feet.

These dressers were constructed primarily from native English oak using traditional joinery methods, such as mortise and tenon joints secured with wooden pegs. Drawer fronts often featured applied geometric mouldings and brass drop handles or pear-drop pulls.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-hewn oak timber with visible pit-saw marks, peg construction, and uneven wear consistent with centuries of use. Look for period-correct drawer construction, such as side-hung drawers or early dovetailing, along with natural oxidisation on the underside and interior boards.

An oak dresser works well as a statement piece in an entryway, dining area, or living room, grounding contemporary decor with historical texture. Pair the dark wood tones with neutral wall palettes, modern ceramics, or minimalist table lamps to balance traditional and contemporary elements.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and maintain its natural patina. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent warping or splitting.
