Bakhtiar carpets originate from the Chahar Mahaal and Bakhtiari region in western Iran. They are historically woven by nomadic Bakhtiari tribespeople and village artisans, characterised by their robust structure and distinct floral or medallion designs.

These carpets are constructed with a durable high-grade wool pile hand-knotted onto a sturdy cotton warp and weft foundation. They typically utilise Turkish (symmetrical) knots, resulting in a thick, dense weave built for heavy foot traffic.

Authenticity is indicated by natural dye variations, slight intentional asymmetry in the hand-woven pattern, and a thick wool pile over a double-weft cotton foundation. The underside will clearly display visible hand-tied knots with subtle irregularities.
