Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Scandinavian enamelling gained international prominence in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly through Norwegian and Danish silversmiths. Craftsmen utilised engine-turning machinery to engrave precise patterns into silver before applying translucent coloured enamel, creating detailed nature-inspired motifs such as butterflies and flowers.

These brooches are typically crafted from sterling silver (often stamped 925 or 925S) or silver-gilt (vermeil). The decorative surface consists of vitreous glass enamel, which is powdered glass fused to the engraved metal surface under high heat.

Authentic pieces generally feature hallmark stamps indicating silver purity alongside makers marks or country origin stamps such as Norway or Sterling. Examining the enamel under magnification reveals fine, geometric machine-engraved patterns beneath a smooth, translucent enamel glaze.

A silver butterfly brooch can be styled on suit lapels, wool coats, or scarves to add contrast and texture to modern attire. Collectors also mount and frame these small decorative pieces inside glass shadow boxes as visual wall art.

Clean the silver metal gently using a soft, non-abrasive jewellery polishing cloth while avoiding harsh liquid cleaners that can damage vintage enamel. Store the brooch flat in a lined jewellery box to protect the glass enamel from impacts, surface scratches, or chipping.
