Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian kneehole desk is a writing cabinet with a central open recess for the users legs, flanked by pedestals containing sets of drawers. Popularised in nineteenth-century Britain, these desks typically feature mahogany or walnut construction, leather inset writing surfaces, and polished brass handles.

Victorian cabinetmakers predominantly utilized solid woods and veneers such as Cuban mahogany, walnut, and oak. Writing surfaces were frequently inset with gold-tooled skiver or hide leather, while drawer pulls and keyhole escutcheons were cast from brass.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, original brass locks, and natural oxidation on unexposed timber surfaces. The timber will show depth of grain alongside expected wear, and the undersides of drawers often reveal hand-planed secondary woods like pine or oak.

An antique mahogany desk introduces warmth and architectural weight to a modern home office or study. Pairing the piece with contemporary desk lighting, neutral walls, and modern seating creates a balanced contrast between historical craft and modern functionality.

Maintain the leather insert by wiping it with a dry, soft cloth and occasionally applying a specialised leather conditioner to prevent drying and cracking. Protect the mahogany timber with natural beeswax polish applied along the grain, keeping the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
