Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A library table is a substantial writing or centre table designed primarily for study rooms and private libraries, originating in the 18th century and reaching peak popularity in the 19th century. These tables typically feature flat rectangular writing surfaces, shallow frieze drawers for stationery, and heavy pedestal or trestle bases.

Cabinetmakers during the 19th century favoured dense hardwoods with defined grain patterns, such as mahogany, walnut, rosewood, and exotic woods like Goncalo Alves. Structural elements often incorporated hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, oak or pine secondary woods, and brass castors.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display signs of period construction, including hand-sawn wood marks on interior surfaces, hand-cut dovetails on frieze drawers, original brass locks or handles, and natural wear around the feet and writing surface. The presence of period timber like Goncalo Alves or Brazilian rosewood also helps date the construction.

A 19th-century library table can function as a standalone executive desk in a modern home office or serve as a central console table in a large hallway. Pairing the dark hardwood timber with contemporary lighting, neutral walls, and minimalist seating creates a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain exotic hardwood furniture by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax paste twice a year to preserve the wood grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and strong heat sources to prevent moisture loss, warping, or cracking.
