Shackladys Antiques has dated this Carved Oak Open Bookcase to the 19th Century.

The structure is defined by boldly carved figural uprights dividing the bays. These supports take the form of caryatid and term figures—alternating male and female subjects in classical dress—carved in high relief with notable depth and detail. Each figure is integrated with scrolling acanthus ornament, reflecting confident craftsmanship and a strongly sculptural approach.

The upper section is finished with a continuous gadrooned moulding, adding visual weight and rhythm, while the shelf fronts feature a repeating carved border. The plinth base incorporates further foliate decoration above a stepped support, providing a solid and well-resolved foundation.
