Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sorcerers mirror, also known as a witchs mirror, is a convex circular mirror surrounded by a ring of small cut glass cabochons or lenses. Originating in earlier centuries and widely produced during the Victorian era, these mirrors were designed to distort reflections and allow a view of an entire room from a single vantage point.

These items typically feature hand-turned mahogany or walnut frames housing a central convex silvered glass plate. Embedded along the inner bezel are convex glass cabochons or cut lenses that refract ambient light.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-turned wooden frames with natural grain variations, period glass silvering showing subtle foxing, and individual inset optical lenses rather than modern molded plastic or uniform machine-cut glass.

Positioning a pair of convex mirrors symmetrically on a narrow wall space or flanking a central piece of artwork creates balanced visual interest. Their reflective geometry catches ambient light, making them effective focal points in hallways or dining rooms.

Clean the glass plates gently using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding direct spray of liquids that could seep behind the rim and damage the silvering. Preserve the turned mahogany frame by dusting regularly and applying a light coat of natural beeswax polish annually.
