Arundel Decorative has dated this Antique Military Campaign Chest to the 19th Century.
A wonderfully evocative late-19th-century campaign chest, bearing the painted designation of a Captain of the 69th Regiment — a unit with active service during the Second Boer War (1899–1902). This is a genuine working piece of military kit: robust, functional, and built to withstand transport across continents.
Crafted in solid timber and reinforced with iron strapwork, the chest retains its original military character — from the weathered paint to the honest wear of service life. The interior is plain and utilitarian, exactly as expected from a field chest designed for rapid packing, movement, and deployment. We understand that this Campaign Chest was owned by Capt. E. Coke from the 69th Regiment and originated from the Trusley Estate which is an historic, family-run agricultural estate located in South Derbyshire's "Golden Triangle," near Ashbourne. The estate has been owned by the Coke family since 1418
