Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Camphor wood chests were constructed primarily during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for naval officers, merchants, and travellers. The distinct aromatic timber naturally repels insects, making these trunks essential for storing textiles, woollens, and documents during long ocean voyages.

These trunks are crafted from solid camphor wood and joined with dovetail construction. They feature flush-mounted brass corner brackets, recessed handles, and flush lockplates designed to prevent damage during transport in ships holds or military movement.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display hand-cut joinery, original flush brass hardware with aged patination, and a persistent, natural camphor aroma inside the box. Original keyhole escutcheons and external brass corner straps show minor irregularities typical of period handcrafting.

A campaign trunk serves as a functional low table in a living room, a blanket storage box at the foot of a bed, or an accent piece in an entryway. The flat top surface provides space for styling decorative objects, while the interior provides hidden storage.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a neutral beeswax polish sparingly along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage or splitting, and clean brass fittings with a dry cloth to preserve natural patination.
