Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Toleware refers to decorative objects crafted from painted or lacquered sheet iron, tinplate, or steel, which became prominent during the 18th and 19th centuries. During the Regency period, these pieces frequently featured classicised hand-painted gilt decoration set against dark, polished backgrounds.

These trays were typically crafted from rolled iron or tin plate that was shaped, primed, and coated with layers of asphaltum varnish or lacquer before receiving hand-applied gold leaf, paint, or bronze powder decoration.

Authentic period pieces generally display age-appropriate craquelure in the surface varnish, minor wear along raised edges, hand-applied gilding, and a noticeably heavier gauge metal construction compared to modern sheet-metal reproductions.

An antique toleware tray can be displayed vertically on a sideboard or mantelpiece to showcase its geometric detailing, or laid flat on an ottoman or coffee table to group smaller tabletop objects.

Dust the tray gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth, and avoid moisture, liquid cleaners, or abrasive polishes that could strip the delicate surface varnish and original gilding.
