Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced between 1820 and 1830, George IV dining chairs bridged the refined proportions of the Regency era and the heavier ornamentation of early Victorian furniture. Common hallmarks include curved crest rails, carved mid-rails, sabre or turned legs, and rich timber veneers.

Solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers were the primary timber choices due to their strength and rich tone. Secondary woods like pine or beech were used for internal framing, while drop-in or fixed seats were upholstered in horsehair, wool damask, or silk.

Look for signs of hand-craftsmanship, such as hand-cut dovetails, irregular mortise-and-tenon joints, and natural oxidisation on untouched under-surfaces. Authentic period pieces also display smooth, natural patination and slight irregularities consistent with hand-planed timber.

A set of antique mahogany chairs pairs well with modern oak or zinc-topped dining tables to create a striking textural contrast. Reupholstering the seats in contemporary linen or minimalist geometric fabrics can effortlessly integrate period seating into contemporary dining spaces.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the finish. Keep chairs away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, splitting, or fabric fading.
