Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian snap-top table, also known as a tilt-top or loo table, features a circular or oval surface attached to a central pedestal via a hinged mechanism. This allowed the tabletop to tilt vertically when not in use, freeing up floor space in 19th-century drawing rooms.

These tables were commonly crafted from high-grade hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or walnut. Veneers with prominent grain patterns were applied to the top surface, supported by a solid wooden pedestal and carved tripod or quadform legs fitted with brass castors.

Authentic period examples feature original brass spring-catch mechanisms beneath the tabletop, hand-carved details on the pedestal and feet, and genuine rosewood graining. Natural contraction gaps in the underside woodwork and age-appropriate wear to the castors also indicate period construction.

A circular rosewood table functions well as a compact dining table in open-plan spaces or as a central focus point in an entryway or foyer. When tilted vertically, it can be positioned against a wall to highlight the rich timber figure as decorative panelling.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the timber, and keep the table away from direct heat sources or prolonged sunlight to prevent veneer movement and fading.
