Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver photo frames became widely popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods as personal photography gained accessibility. Craftsmen utilised silver sheet mounted over wood or card backings, featuring shaped borders, foliate engravings, and easel supports tailored for displaying family portraits on mantlepieces and tables.

These frames typically consist of a thin hallmarked sterling silver facade mounted onto a wooden or cardboard core. The reverse side and easel support are generally covered in velvet or leather, holding a glass front panel to protect the insert photograph.

Authentic British sterling silver frames feature official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for silver purity, a date letter, and a makers mark stamped into the metal casing. The reverse typically exhibits traditional construction methods such as velvet backing and original metal securing tabs.

Place the silver frame alongside books on a shelf, on a dedicated desk area, or styled upon a sideboard. Grouping frames of varying shapes and heights creates visual interest while blending historic metallic accents with contemporary decor.

Clean the silver facade gently using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver polish, taking care to avoid getting liquid polish onto the fabric backing. Store in low-humidity environments to minimise tarnish and oxidisation over time.
