Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pedestal dining tables emerged prominently in the early 19th century, designed to offer flexible seating without leg interference at the corners. They frequently feature central column supports mounted on multi-legged bases with castors, accommodating extension leaves via a split-frame sliding mechanism.

High-grade timbers such as West Indian or Cuban mahogany are standard, chosen for their structural strength and dimensional stability. Brass castors, steel sliding runner mechanisms, and solid wood extension leaves are typical historical construction components.

Look for hand-planing marks on the underside, original brass clip connectors, period sliding runner systems, hand-carved details on the feet or column turnings, and natural patination across the table top and pedestal bases.

Contrast the dark mahogany wood tones with contemporary upholstered dining chairs or minimalist architectural lighting fixtures. Position the table centrally on a large neutral rug to ground the space while highlighting the timber grain.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a traditional beeswax polish once or twice a year following the natural grain. Avoid placing hot items or liquids directly on the finish, and position the piece away from direct heat sources.
