Georgian Mahogany Side Chair, Horse Racing Provenance

Description

A Georgian Chippendale period mahogany side chair of large proportions with beautifully pierced splat back, inset with brass plaque reading ‘Mrs Unetts Chair Market Drayton 1800’.

We believe Mrs Unett had links to race horsing with Market Drayton racecourse, steeped in history dating back to its fist race in 1729 and latterly a new course on the Adderley Estate in the 1780.

Our research shows there is a James Unett race horse trainer, who is perhaps a descendant of Mrs Unett.

This fabulous chair is a wonderful conversation piece with seat recovered in the most beautiful velvet by Mulberry ‘Morning Gallop’.
