Antique Edwardian Mahogany Partners Desk

1900 - 1920
Description

A fine Edwardian mahogany partners desk of generous proportion and refined design. The rectangular moulded top is inset with a gilt-tooled leather writing surface resting above an arrangement of drawers to one side and cupboards and drawers to the reverse, allowing the desk to be used comfortably from either side.

Constructed in well-figured mahogany with a warm, mellow tone, the desk stands on a plinth base fitted with concealed castors for ease of movement. The drawers are finely dovetailed and retain their original turned mahogany knobs. The piece separates into three sections—top and two pedestals—for convenient transport and installation.

Displaying the restrained elegance typical of the Edwardian period, this desk combines excellent quality craftsmanship with timeless practicality making it an ideal centrepiece for a study, library, or executive office.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 19th-century Britain, a partners desk is a large double-sided writing desk crafted to allow two business partners to work simultaneously facing each other.

Edwardian partners desks are predominantly constructed using solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers, fitted with cast brass handles and inlaid with gilt-tooled leather writing surfaces.

Authentic partners desks feature functioning drawers or cupboards on both opposite sides, hand-cut dovetail joinery, period-correct brass hardware, and a modular three-part pedestal construction.

Position the desk centrally within a home office or library space to highlight its two-sided architecture, pairing it with neutral wall palettes and refined task lighting.

Clean the mahogany timber regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and beeswax polish, while maintaining the leather inlay using a dedicated leather nourish wax.
