Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III oak dressers, made between 1760 and 1820, are defined by functional proportion, solid joint construction, and local British timber work. They often feature multiple drawers with brass drop handles, raised on straight, turned, or cabriole legs.

These pieces were built primarily from English or Welsh oak, often utilising quarter-sawn boards to display distinct grain patterns. Drawers were constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints, pine or oak drawer linings, and cast brass swan-neck or bail handles.

Authentic pieces show hand-planed surfaces, irregular dovetail joints, wood peg construction, and uneven shrinkage across solid oak boards over time. Hardware should exhibit hand-finished brass work with signs of age and natural oxidisation.

Position the piece in an entryway or dining room as a console or serving surface. Pair the deep oak tones with understated contemporary artwork, modern table lamps, or minimal ceramic vessels to contrast historical joinery with modern design.

Maintain the finish by applying a high-grade beeswax paste twice yearly using a soft cloth, rubbing with the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and maintain stable humidity levels to prevent timber movement or splitting.
