Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chippendale style armchairs typically feature ribbon-back or pierced fretwork splats, serpentine top rails, gracefully curved arms, and sturdy cabriole or square legs. Originating in the 18th century, the style emphasizes mid-to-late Georgian carved detailing, often rendered in solid mahogany.

Late 19th-century Chippendale style seating is predominantly crafted from dense mahogany wood, valued for its fine grain and suitability for intricate carving. Seats were historically upholstered in leather, horsehair cloth, or silk damask, held in place with decorative brass studs.

Late Victorian and Edwardian revival pieces reproduce 18th-century forms with precise machine-assisted cuts finished by hand. Look for sharp fretwork carving, corner brackets on the legs, period joinery such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, and subtle natural age wear along the armrests and base.

A pair of Chippendale carver chairs can be placed at the heads of a minimalist modern dining table to introduce texture and historical contrast. They also work exceptionally well flanking a fireplace, as library accent chairs, or behind a desk.

Keep mahogany frames dusted with a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the timbers patination. Clean leather upholstery with a damp cloth and apply dedicated leather conditioner periodically to prevent cracking, keeping pieces away from direct heat sources.
