Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian display cabinets typically feature lighter designs than their Victorian predecessors, drawing inspiration from 18th-century French and English furniture styles. Common traits include delicate marquetry or parquetry, glazed glass doors, slender legs, and fine wood veneers like walnut, rosewood, or kingwood.

Edwardian cabinet makers frequently utilised high-grade mahogany, walnut, and satinwood, often augmented with kingwood or rosewood crossbanding. Decorative elements were typically executed using cast brass or gilt bronze ormolu mounts alongside hand-cut float glass.

Authentic period cabinets display hand-cut joinery such as dovetails inside drawer frames, original glass with minor surface waviness or air bubbles, and natural patination on untamed brass fittings. Unfinished rear panels often show timber shrinking consistent with age.

An antique vitrine serves as a focal point when placed against a neutral wall. Modern interior styling pairs these cabinets with curated collections of monochrome ceramics, crystal glassware, or art objects to create visual contrast against modern architectural lines.

Preserve timber veneers by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels and keeping the cabinet away from direct heat sources or direct sunlight. Clean glass panels with a lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish to the woodwork annually.
