The upper panel displays an oil painting of a coastal harbour view with sailing vessels, figures on the shoreline and classical architectural elements in the background, beautifully capturing the romantic spirit of traditional maritime art.

The painting is enclosed within an ornate Rococo-style gilt surround with scrolling foliate decoration, which sits above the rectangular mirror plate. The mirror itself is framed by further carved and gilded detailing, all mounted on the original painted wooden backing board with a moulded cornice to the top.

Trumeau mirrors such as this were traditionally placed above fireplaces or between windows in French interiors, where they provided both decorative interest and reflected light around a room. The combination of painted panel and mirror makes these pieces particularly attractive and highly sought after for both period and contemporary interiors.

Dating from the 19th century, this example retains a lovely mellow patina with minor age-related wear consistent with its age, adding to its authentic character and charm.
A striking decorative piece ideal for a hallway, sitting room or bedroom.
