Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Renaissance Revival furniture, prominent in the mid-to-late nineteenth century, draws structural and decorative inspiration from sixteenth-century European designs. Typical features include heavy architectural proportions, deep relief carving, turned column supports, and classical motifs such as gadrooning, scrollwork, and acanthus leaves.

Dense hardwoods were predominantly chosen for Renaissance Revival construction to accommodate intricate hand carving. French examples frequently feature solid walnut or oak, prized for their fine grain, structural durability, and capacity to hold sharp carved detail over time.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display evidence of hand-tooling on carved sections, secondary timber irregularities on the underside, and period joinery such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints. Natural patination and surface wear around feet and stretchers also indicate genuine age.

A carved centre table serves as an architectural anchor when placed in an entry hall, formal library, or large living room. Pairing dark walnut woodwork with neutral upholstery, clean-lined modern art, or contemporary lighting creates a balanced contrast between historical craft and modern design.

Maintain carved walnut surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Avoid placing the table near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber movement, shrinkage, or finish fading.
