Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian chests of drawers, produced between 1714 and 1837, are noted for classical proportions, symmetry, and the fine use of timbers such as dense Cuban mahogany or walnut. Design features often include hand-dovetailed graduated drawers, brass swan-neck or bale handles, cockbeaded drawer edges, and sturdy bracket feet.

Chests with brushing slides from this era were traditionally built using solid or veneered mahogany over oak or pine carcass wood. Construction relies on hand-cut dovetail joints, dustboards between drawers, cast brass hardware secured with rear nuts, and a pull-out slide lined with baize or left polished for dressing clothes.

Authentic period pieces exhibit uneven hand-sawn wood marks on the carcass backs and drawer linings, hand-cut irregular dovetails, and genuine patination around keyholes and handles. The presence of original steel locks, cast brass escutcheons, and natural timber shrinkage over time also indicates age.

A Georgian chest works as a versatile focal point in an entryway, living room alcove, or modern bedroom, anchoring contemporary art or contemporary table lamps placed above it. Its warm timber tones pair well with neutral stone walls, linen drapery, and minimalist modern upholstery.

Clean the surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year along the wood grain, avoiding silicone-based sprays, and keep the chest away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber movement.
