Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the George III period in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, domestic heating relied heavily on coal fires. Metalworkers crafted helmet-shaped scuttles from copper and brass to provide functional yet presentable containers for storing coal directly on the hearth.

Authentic Georgian scuttles were primarily fabricated from heavy-gauge sheet copper, often featuring brass rivets and turned wooden handles to protect hands from heat transfer.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-hammered copper construction, hand-riveted seams, natural surface wear near the base, and period-appropriate joinery on the overhead and rear handles.

An antique copper scuttle can be placed on a fireplace hearth to hold kindling, small logs, or decorative pinecones, or repurposed as a planter in traditional and rustic living spaces.

Clean the copper surface with a soft dry cloth to remove dust. To maintain the metal finish without stripping historical tarnish, apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax rather than abrasive liquid polishes.
