The Case

The case is in solid shiny gilt brass, fully engraved and stands 19cm high x 9cm wide with a depth of 8cm it is in perfect condition with mint thick 3mm bevelled sides/front/ and top viewing glass.

The case is very shiny and hard to photograph they do not do the clock justice at all.

The Dial

The dial is in original condition in white porcelain with Roman numerals, it has a sweep seconds hand, which sets this clock apart from others ,the clock has very fine original black ornate hands.

The Movement

The movement is an eight-day time and strike which strikes the hours via a small sweet bell to the rear and a bell at the base with the repeat button to repeat the last hour struck, the movement has been serviced and oiled so keeping great time over the eight days and has the bonus of the original platform escapement.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A carriage clock is a small, spring-driven timepiece designed for travel, developed in France during the early nineteenth century. They traditionally feature a sturdy rectangular brass case, a carrying handle, and glass side panels to display the balance wheel movement.

Antique carriage clocks are predominantly constructed from solid brass or gilded bronze casing, set with bevelled lead glass panels. The dial is typically crafted from fired vitreous enamel over copper, paired with blued steel hands and brass clockwork mechanisms.

Authentic French carriage clocks frequently feature maker stamps on the back movement plate, hand-engraved casing details, and heavy solid brass construction. The inclusion of a vitreous enamel dial, bevelled glass panels, and an original platform escapement also indicates authenticity.

An antique carriage clock can be displayed on a fireplace mantelpiece, an executive desk, or placed alongside books on a library shelf. The gilded brass casing adds architectural structure and warm metallic tones to both modern and traditional interiors.

Keep the clock in a dry environment with stable temperatures to protect the internal mechanism from humidity and oxidisation. Dust the exterior gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical polishes on gilded brass, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist every five years.
