George III Satinwood Games Table.

English circa 1785 - 1795 18th century

George III period West Indian satinwood demi lune card table.

The semi-circular top is crossbanded in tulipwood with boxwood and ebony stringing.

The large satinwood banding is intricately inlaid with a fine floral pattern with penwork highlights.

The top opens back onto twin gate legs to reveal a green baize playing surface above a tulipwood concave thumbnail edge.

The crossbanded frieze has been veneered with choice West Indian satinwood and tulipwood flutes sit above finely tapered satinwood and brown ebony stringing.

Influenced by cabinetmakers such as Thomas Sheraton and George Hepplewhite, these tables were designed to function as decorative wall tables when closed and fold out into full circular tables for evening card games.
