Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian bureau bookcase typically features a drop-down sloped writing flap over a chest of drawers, surmounted by a twin-door cabinet upper section. Originating in 18th-century Britain, this multi-functional piece served as a writing desk, secure document storage, and display cabinet for books.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid woods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring dovetailed drawer joints and brass hardware like swan-neck handles. Decorative elements often included marquetry or stringing inlays, oak drawer linings, and hand-cut timber veneers.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-sawn wood construction on back panels, hand-cut dovetail joints, and age-consistent wear on drawer runners. Look for original cast brass drop handles, iron locks, and characteristic bracket feet supporting the cabinet base.

Place this tall cabinet against a neutral focal wall in a study, living room, or hallway to highlight its rich wood grain. Pair the piece with modern minimalist seating or contemporary lighting to create a balanced juxtaposition between historical character and modern aesthetics.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and fading of decorative inlays.
