Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed during the mid-nineteenth century, aneroid barometers measure atmospheric pressure changes using an internal metallic capsule rather than mercury. Victorian examples were crafted with decorative wooden surrounds to serve as both functional instruments and wall decor.

These instruments were traditionally built using solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, frequently accented with hand-carved detail. Dials were made from ceramic or enamelled metal, sealed behind bevelled glass within a cast brass bezel.

Authentic nineteenth-century barometers feature original hand-carved wood detailing showing natural patina, heavy brass bezels, and period-correct typography on ceramic or brass dials. Inspection of the reverse usually reveals a central brass calibration screw and original mounting fixtures.

A carved oak barometer can be integrated into a gallery wall alongside framed monochrome prints, mounted in an entryway, or hung in a home office. The warm timber tones contrast effectively against contemporary muted wall paint or dark heritage colours.

Maintain the item by hanging it away from direct sunlight, draughts, and radiator heat. Dust the timber surround with a dry microfibre cloth, and clean the glass face by applying glass cleaner to a cloth rather than directly onto the instrument.
