Anthony Short Antiques has dated this Antique Mahogany Cheval Mirror to the 19th Century.
The cross grain moulded frame is supported between exceptionally elegant turned and spiral-reeded uprights with solid reeded intersections, all displaying the finest quality cabinetmaking of the period.
The mirror is flanked by a pair of original ormolu swinging candle arms, adding both functionality and decorative refinement. It stands on four sweeping sabre splayed legs, united by double turned stretchers and terminating in the original finely cast and carved brass castors.
To the reverse, the mirror retains its original mahogany panelled back, a feature typical of Gillows workshop and indicative of its superior construction. The whole piece is in excellent, largely original condition, boasting a deep, rich patina that has developed beautifully over time and speaks to both its quality and careful preservation.
This William IV cheval mirror is not only a superb example of early 19th century English craftsmanship, but also a statement piece of classic design, ideal for a refined bedroom, dressing room, or elegant interior.
