Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century chaise longue is an elongated upholstered seat designed for reclining, originating in France before becoming widely popular across Europe during the Victorian era. It served as both a daybed and a focal piece of seating in formal drawing rooms.

Victorian chaise longue frames were constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, joined using mortise and tenon joinery. The internal structure traditionally incorporated jute webbing, steel coil springs, and natural fillings like horsehair prior to upholstery.

Authentic antique frames display evidence of hand-carved details, traditional joinery, and original brass or iron castors on turned legs. Additionally, genuine frames typically feature repeated tack marks along the rails from historic re-upholstery.

An antique frame can be re-upholstered in contemporary fabrics like velvet or textured linen to complement modern interior schemes. It functions effectively positioned in a bay window, at the foot of a bed, or as statement seating in a living room.

Bare wooden frames should be kept in a stable climate to prevent the timber from warping or splitting. Light dusting with a soft cloth and applying a clear natural beeswax polish will protect the wood surface prior to structural restoration or re-upholstery.
