Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II walnut bureau is a writing desk constructed in Britain during the reign of King George II between 1727 and 1760. It features a sloped hinged fall-front lid that opens to reveal an internal fitted desk surface, set above a chest of graduating drawers.

These bureaus were constructed using figured walnut veneers applied over pine or oak carcases. They frequently feature featherbanding or crossbanding inlays, solid oak drawer linings, and cast brass backplate handles with matching keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints, runner wear on the drawer bottoms consistent with age, period brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and hand-sawn secondary timbers inside the carcase.

Position the bureau in a hallway, study, or living room alcove to serve as a compact workstation. Pair the dark wood tones with contemporary lamp lighting, modern ceramic accents, and light neutral paint colours on surrounding walls.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and high-humidity areas to prevent wood movement and veneer lifting.
