Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chiffonier is a compact sideboard or cabinet introduced in the early 19th century, designed to provide both enclosed cupboard storage and open display shelves. Popular during the Victorian era, these functional pieces often feature a low storage base with upper shelving tiers supported by brass or wooden columns.

These cabinets typically feature dense hardwoods such as flame mahogany or teak, selected for structural stability. Construction methods involve dovetail drawer joints, cast brass gallery supports, solid brass turned knobs, and panelled cupboard doors with integrated keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic mid-Victorian pieces display hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, fluted side pilasters, and natural age-related patination on the mahogany surfaces. Look for period brass hardware, original locking mechanisms, and secondary timber linings such as pine or oak.

Position the cabinet against a neutral or boldly painted wall to create visual contrast with the rich timber tones. Use the upper brass-tiered shelves to display glassware, ceramics, or small framed artwork to integrate historic craftsmanship into modern living spaces.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year, buffing along the wood grain. Keep the cabinet positioned away from direct sunlight and active heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, warping, or finish deterioration.
