Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century flame mahogany cabinet is a piece of storage furniture constructed during the Regency or Victorian eras featuring highly figurative crotch mahogany veneers. These pieces typically incorporate a top drawer above a two-door cupboard and were designed for dining rooms, halls, or parlours.

These cabinets feature crotch mahogany veneers selected for their flame-like figure, applied over a solid timber carcass such as pine or oak. Hand-dovetailed drawer joints, solid brass keyhole escutcheons, and hand-cut timber back panels are standard hallmarks of 19th-century cabinetmaking.

Authentic period pieces display signs of historical craftsmanship, including hand-sawn timber marks, original brass locks, and natural age-related shrinkage in veneer or solid wood panels. The interior drawer linings often show hand-planed finishes and period-appropriate joinery.

Position the cabinet against a neutral or dark backdrop in a hallway, dining room, or living space to highlight the rich timber grain. Complement the top surface with modern ceramics, framed artwork, or minimal lighting to balance traditional cabinetmaking with contemporary design.

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the wood veneer from drying out or fading. Clean regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the direction of the grain.
