Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian luggage stand is a low wooden bench with a slatted or webbed top, designed to elevate travelling trunks and suitcases off the floor. Originating in 19th-century guest bedrooms and country estates, these pieces facilitated easier packing and unpacking for visitors.

Victorian luggage stands were typically constructed from durable British hardwoods such as ash, oak, mahogany, or walnut. Features included mortise and tenon joinery, sturdy turned or tapered legs, and slatted tops to accommodate heavy leather portmanteaus.

Authentic Victorian examples often display hand-turned legs, original joinery, and natural wear around the slatted rails consistent with luggage placement. Inspecting the underside reveals age-appropriate patination and evidence of period hand-carving or early machine woodworking rather than modern fixings.

In contemporary interiors, a Victorian luggage stand serves as a versatile accent piece at the foot of a bed or inside an entryway. Beyond holding bags, it functions as a low display platform for stacked art books, blankets, or curated ceramics.

Keep the timber clean by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year following the natural grain. Avoid placing the stand near direct heat sources or damp environments to prevent timber movement and splitting.
