Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A loo table originated in the 18th century as a dedicated surface for playing the card game Loo or Lanterloo. By the mid-19th century, these tables evolved into multi-purpose parlour and centre tables, incorporating tilt-top mechanisms so they could be positioned flat against a wall when not in use.

Victorian cabinetmakers predominantly utilised burr walnut, rosewood, and mahogany veneers applied over solid pine or oak frames. The table tops frequently feature book-matched figured veneers resting on a turned central pedestal with hand-carved quadruped legs.

Authentic period examples feature original brass tilt-catch mechanisms, hand-carved base details, and natural oxidisation on the unpolished timber undersides. The presence of original ceramic or brass castors fitted beneath the feet and hand-cut timber joinery further indicates 19th-century construction.

Positioning the table as a centrepiece in an entry foyer or wide hallway creates a functional focal point that highlights the figured veneer top. Tilting the table top vertically allows the timber grain to act as a decorative panel when floor space needs to be conserved.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing in the direction of the grain. Keep the item away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to protect the veneer from warping or bleaching.
