Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A rummer is a robust, short-stemmed drinking glass with a large bowl that gained wide popularity in Britain during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. They were primarily designed for consuming toddy, spiced punch, cider, or wine.

These pieces were hand-blown using lead crystal glass, known for its clarity and weight. Bases were often pressed into square shapes using metal mouldsfrequently referred to as lemon-squeezer basesand decorative motifs were applied using copper wheel engraving.

Authentic period examples typically exhibit slight asymmetry from hand-crafting, micro-scratches on the underside of the base from natural wear, and evidence of a pontil mark or mould seam near the pedestal base junction.

Period glassware can be arranged on a dining sideboard, glass-fronted cabinet, or bar cart to capture and refract natural light. Grouping items of varying heights creates a textured display within traditional or contemporary spaces.

Hand wash gently in lukewarm water using a mild liquid soap, avoiding modern dishwashers and harsh abrasive chemical cleaners. Dry immediately with a lint-free microfibre cloth to prevent water spotting and cloudy residue.
