Harrington Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The sculpture illustrates the contrasting but complementary nature of love, with Eros representing love and Anteros representing love returned or 'reciprocal love' in a passionate struggle over a human heart.
Their relationship represented the contrast between friendship and rivalry and devotion and conflict and as such they were often depicted wrestling or fighting in some sort of competition.

The bronze has excellent colour with good aged patina throughout. There is some wear in areas commensurate with age (please see photographs) but the piece is generally in good order throughout and displays extremely well.
