Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency style furniture, dating from roughly 1811 to 1830, is defined by classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian influences, features clean neoclassical lines, brass marquetry, carved motifs, sabre legs, and fine dark hardwoods such as mahogany and rosewood.

Regency armchairs were primarily constructed using Cuban or West Indian mahogany, framed with traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and often incorporated reeded edge mouldings, hand-carved scrollwork, and drop-in or fixed upholstered seats.

Authentic pieces feature signs of age including hand-cut joinery, irregular underside saw marks, natural oxidisation on untouched timber, classical sabre or turned front legs, and original carving details rather than modern machine reproductions.

A Regency armchair can serve as an accent piece in a minimalist hallway, sit alongside a modern desk in a home office, or function as a host chair at the end of a contemporary dining table to create visual contrast.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or discolouration.
