Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian astragal glazed bookcases, produced around 1900 to 1910, feature wooden glazing bars arranged in decorative geometric or curving patterns over glass doors. Often influenced by 18th-century Chippendale and Sheraton designs, these pieces combine refined proportions with dark hardwood construction.

These bookcases were predominantly crafted using solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers, featuring hand-fitted glass panels secured with astragal glazing mouldings. Key architectural elements include moulded cornices, shaped aprons, and raised legs, joined with traditional dovetail and mortise-and-tenon wood joinery.

Authentic Edwardian examples display narrow glazing bars rather than modern heavy mouldings, along with hand-cut timber jointing and period brass lock plates or escutcheons. The glass panes may exhibit slight natural variations consistent with turn-of-the-century sheet glass manufacturing.

Position the cabinet against a neutral backdrop to highlight the intricate geometric astragal woodwork. Fill the internal shelves with a curated mixture of ceramics, art books, and glassware to balance traditional timber tones with modern minimalism.

Dust the wooden framework regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish twice yearly to preserve the mahogany finish. Clean glass panes carefully using a mild glass cleaner applied to a microfiber cloth rather than sprayed directly onto the frame.
